This issue commemorates the Chinese Lunar Year of the Dog.

A miniature sheet was issued featuring two stamps from this issue.

Most notable is the 45 cent stamp which features a seeing-eye Labrador Retriever with the number 45 in Braille embossed into it - the first New Zealand stamp to include Braille markings. Some stamps have been found with missing Braille dots.
