This was the first New Zealand Post stamp issue with seeds attached - and possibly the last. While there was no problem exporting seeds from New Zealand most countries strict import laws made it difficult for overseas customers to import the original miniature sheets. For this reason, the miniature sheet (shown above) and first day covers were also issued in an 'overseas' variety which has a photo of the seeds but no actual seeds attached. The end result is three varieties of each stamp:

The individual stamps (as shown above) had no seeds, while the stamps from the miniature sheets and First Day Covers sold in New Zealand had seeds attached and the stamps from the miniature sheets and First Day Covers sold to overseas customers had photos where the seeds should be but no actual seeds.
